Shootout at Sahiwal

by Khanum

Last week, me along with my two cartoon cousins rocketed our way to another city on some business. We had never imagined that this trip would become this memorable and fun.I never left my camera. They never left me.

Even on our last day, few minutes before we departed, *while me all teary* We discovered my cousin’s grandfather’s Rifle. Could we three loony toons stay away from it? Nope. Ever since I got an upgrade on my camera, I have become my cousins professional photographer, so we had to test its beauty. Here are some pictures from that dangerous weapon’s test shoot.

P.S. No human or animal was injured during the test shoot, I assure you all. It was completely a safe rifle to play with. Actually its a rifle that is used to shot lizards in the house, as my khala is very scared of them. So do the math now about its safety.

Her Smile in Black & White

by Khanum

“Smiling is infectious,
you catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.”

Whoever said these words, said it so true. I enjoy photographing kids, especially when they are this bubbly. This little girl is my cousin, Mehr un Nisa, we call her Mehru.

Masha Allah! Her smile is quite photogenic and what’s more good about her smile is that it suits the black & white canvas. I personally love black & white photographs more than the color ones. They speak many things.  And the best day to take B&W photos in natural day light is when it’s cloudy and about to be rainy outside.1013577_239795996223408_236620400_n

Outdoor Cafes in Lahore & Around the World

by Khanum

Outdoor cafes are fun.

Cultures of  various famous cities and the specific feeling attached to their environment is what attracts tourists towards them from around the world. Whether its Venice , the city made on Island or Paris, The city of Love. These are just two names I gave you. Of course there are plenty of different places you visited or plan to visit , or just dream about due to their specific nature.

Let me tell you what I’m interested in when am thinking of a journey. Street food. And Outdoor Things. Yup!I dig for streets. Architectural beauties, Buildings and monuments are also of course significant for any fantastic place but let’s just say, cleaner streets and the vibrant walls of the city is what makes me go mad with awe. Definitely because that’s what I usually don’t get to see in here. That’s right. I meant Lahore. It’s about Charming, artistic and attractive Environment! It shouldn’t be like you have to eat in 5 stars always to value and praise the city and actually like its food and living quality. All the charm a city has to offer to tourists and its own citizens even, must be out there in the streets. Right there! Not in PC’s Bukhara or Avari’s  Buffet.

We have a phrase that goes like, “Jinney lahore ni wekhya O jamya e Ni” Loosely translated as If you haven’t seen Lahore, son! You haven’t even been born yet. We have a food street that’s dedicated to food and even though its a great thing but I never felt comfortable there. In fact I have some issues. Some things are super expensive there because that’s the only food street in Lahore. Secondly, It gets congested at times. Well more like all the time. Thirdly, Women usually get teased there. I mean, its more like a family oriented place. Its not a place where you can hangout with friends or hangout with even your brother. Plus The business there is opened at nights only I guess. No morning dining or fun. There are also come cafes I believe which are great to look at but way too expensive and confined to only areas like M.M Alam road, DHA and Gulberg etc. Moreover, they are hardly outdoor ones.

What I’m saying is, Why such beautiful food active street  is confined to one big area. Why can’t we have outdoor cafes and restaurants all over the city? They might not work in Summers but hey, they can be fantastic during winters season! So….!

Dear people who plan all these city things,

Please upgrade the city to a fine food friendly and outdoor dinning one. If the government is buying Turkish dramas, regardless if they promote Asian Turkish Muslim side or European Turkish Muslim living styles, please pay attention to what’s really healthy for us Pakistanis and can be adopted as a cool living pattern. I mean, Outdoor cafes for instance. It would make people indulge in nice recreational activities, help them develop a taste for a “zauq dar” life, Enjoy food and who knows it may also develop a sense of cleanliness in them. I mean if they like it, they would at least stop throwing garbage on the streets and keep it clean.I have visited Istanbul and they have the coolest outdoor cafes which are not only economical but also make the streets , the bazaars, the entire city look so beautiful.

Look at that! Such a tiny congested outdoor sitting setup but hey! Look how beautifully they are making use of the tiny space and giving you an opportunity to enjoy food in open air.

Simply beautiful. Good place for any newly weds or even an old couple to enjoy an affordable romantic meal. (Why should only 5 star places provide romantic space?)

Okay! Now that may not look like a romantic space but it’s at least still reasonable and pretty.

And this one’s a beautiful place. You can look at the Eiffel tower standing tall at the left side. I wonder how lucky those people are who sat right there on those white chairs and enjoyed a beautiful evening, right beside a world famous Tower. Ahhhhh!

Where the ghosts reside, and shadows walk. My visit to a haunted and gigantic Fort with a bunch of fellow photographers. Details Coming soon.

Beautiful architecture and a stunning crack in the centuries old wall or something like a giant gate at the entrance.

Saieen Saieen Saieen!

by Khanum

What should I write? WHAT should I write? WHAT I SHOULD I WRITEEEE???

uhhh I have been going crazy lately thinking of a post.

Spirituality ? No. I am keeping it personal.

Ramadan wishes? No. Every blog is talking over it.

Food? A BIG NO! I am bored of food posts lately.

Photography ? Nooo, that too has some issues lately.

What’s left then.

ONLY SAIEEN!

I heard a lot over Saieen creature. Like Saieen ka facebook bhi saieen , saieen ki moonch bhi saieen but I had no idea what saieen is all about until in the morning my cousin actually showed me the hilarious WADEIRE KA BETA moves and told what the mania is about! Well, its a song! Yes A damn song based on a comedy sketch by Ali Gul Pir. And apparently Everybody is in Saieen fever these days!

This character reminded me of Zardari, his son and those lazy people in this world who are so Saieen-ish that they joke even on the very practice of Ramadan.

How ?

Observing fast without praying is like sucking up the sheesha pipe without burning the coal, you ain’t getting anything out of it bro! — A bro said on Twitter.

Now please focus on PRAYING AND FASTING rather then sheesha! The point is that without 5 times prayer and other obligatory practices during fasting you are just being lazy and a Saieen! Yes! People who do ‘shahi’ roza are doing Saieen roza ! Please stop doing that. This is not just about giving up food and water. Fasting is about spending your entire time the way Allah wants you to, to come closer to Him and Jannah. Besides, who knows, this could be your last Ramadan. So if you had the chance to change your fate this month, would ya? 🙂  *Brave style*

I guess I have successfully made an awesome point after days! Phew! See ya after more prolonged days now! And Ramadan Kareem to all.

Assalam o alaikum!

Shopping This Summer at Liberty Market, Lahore

by Khanum

Yesterday me and my friend couldn’t sit through our own presentation patiently. Reason? Shopping plan at liberty after the end of most endless presentation on cultural imperialism. The picture above is of a boy who were selling bangles at the market.

Throughout univerity hours, I was praying and wishing in my heart that soon this presentation ends, we get  on our marks. Someone just  shout Ready! Steady! Apple and there we GOOO! and we did go to Liberty finally :d that is after an eternity of *** , I’ll reserve my comments on that. *my class mates can understand my sentiments on this*

My sweet teacher cum class mate gave us both a ride there. We were not even there yet when another friend called and  wished to join us. SO altogether 3 of us, did LOTS OF SHOPPING. *by lots I mean hasb e zarurat*

I am going to give you my review and updates on latest things at liberty market. First, Let me outline our individual agendas of shopping .

NOTCIE: DO NOT LAUGH.

Me: 1 – Buy a white kurta. Only white kurta and just white kurta. No other non white kurta and definitely not any more yellow kurta otherwise mom will kill me for buying yet another same color kurta.

2- SUnblock from AL fateh. Just sunblock and nothing else. *but I ended up buying a compact powder applicator brush and totally forgot I had the mission of buying a sunblock*

My friends’ agendas:

Friend number 1 :Buy everything and anything.:P  ok now seriously, she wanted to buy a bag, shoes, and anything that crosses her way and she finds it Ooo Lala .

Friend number two: Buy A yellow kurta like Pervisha. 😛 *which we did find but in different color so left it* Buy awesome shoes.  *she really got awesome shoes*And finish the shopping off with subway deal. *which sadly didn’t happen we just had dahee bhallaz Instead*

This summers, kurtaz are IN ! I myself bought 5 of them last week. Would have bought a 6th one successfully today but dang it, I couldn’t find a decent one. The prices vary from 600 to 900. But if you do a bargain, you can easily get  kurtaz in around Rs. 650.

My friend bought this kurta. We remembered to photograph this in auto rikshaw on our way back home.

And then we got bored with kurtaz and began to note down and photograph all the dummies wearing designer wear *so we can copy the design later *

This is the stall from where I bought my ring, a very nice one in Rs 35 and my friend bought  a colorful hand band, made of beads.

Now enjoy the slideshow!!

The pictures where pathan kids are showing the victory sign is my speciality .lol. When I was in Turkey, I made every shopkeeper that I photographed to do the same sign. Influence of korean dramas I guess.

That was my trip to Liberty this summer. Have ya done ur shopping for the summers yet ?
