NORAK inspiring Islam for children

by Khanum

Life, is beautiful. What makes it even more pretty are the astounding unique ideas of brilliant people.

Meet Sara Hussein! Another brilliant girl. One of the many beautiful people on earth who came forward with a unique and productive idea of her own. NORAK. “A product that brings the beauty of Islam and Technology together.”

464

I came across this product on Twitter, when I met Sara who was extremely busy running the fundraiser campaign. You all remember the Pop Quranic Book by Hajera Memon, right? A product that I got to know via twitter as well. The news update on that one is that it raised the required funding to go ahead with their project and now they are in the production phase.

As for NORAK , the journey has just started and am so glad that they have raised $2,526 already. With 13 days left to reach their target of $50,000 , Sara is hopeful that it would turn out well. See her website http://bit.ly/1e48ekZ

Is it just about lights?

This is where you’ll be surprised my friend. NORAK is a WONDER. In the words of the creator of this product,

“I created this product to help enhance my children’s bedtime routine and give them something that holds true to our Islamic identity, as well as giving me the freedom to be in control my children’s bedtime routine. In a world filled with technology it can sometimes feel like everything around us is chosen for us before we even get given a choice.

When I was looking for night-lights for my son to help him get to sleep at night all I could find was the same generic moons and stars with pre-installed musical lullabies. I believe that the Quran is our light in this world and so it’s important to be able to share that with our children as soon as we can. With NORAK you can choose what you listen to, and if you take a look at our perks you can get one of the first ever NORAKs to be made with a micro-SD card pre-loaded with Quran for you to listen to.

Although NORAK was designed with children in mind, it’s also a beautifully timeless classic addition to the home. It’s a piece of art / technology that is interchangeable between generations. From babies to grandparents were confident this is a gift to give or keep.”

I find her story very inspiring and her kids too adorable. NORAK is like a perfect gift you can gift to your kids and to your friends as well. If you haven’t checked out their site yet, Follow them and support their campaign by helping in raising the funds. Click here to run fast to their site.

May Allah help NORAK get launched good and soon. Ameen

P.S! Happy 200th Post to me 🙂

Who are the people of Taqwa? (Muttaqin)

by Khanum

1-Those who spend in the way of Allah

2- Those who observe patience and control their anger

3- And those who forgive others out of Love for Allah and in hope to attain His pleasure and Mercy

Assalam o alaikum everyone! Happy fajr and Good morning!

None of the qualities mentioned above are easy to acquire. Especially the 3rd characteristic. How can you forgive someone so easily who has inflicted pain upon you with purpose and aim. People who have wronged us can’t be forgiven so easily. We want Allah to deal with them severely and some of us possibly want Allah to throw them in the hell fire. It’s definitely not an easy task to forgive those who deserve punishment. But what’s even harder is to forgive one’s own self for the sins committed.

How do we do that?

I was up all night and was surfing the internet for some French and Arabic  learning material , I would say half of the night was spent aimlessly, just wandering the streets of internet , but then I came across something useful. I came across Kalamullah site. It’s one great source for Islamic learning. I honestly have used this link for my exams preparation in the past as well. 2 hours ago, I was guided by Allah to watch Nouman Ali Khan’s absolutely emaan packed Khutbah at that website. Who are the people of Taqwa? (Muttaqin)

I cannot explain to you how beautifully Allah speaks to us when we are down, lost and drenched in sins without even being aware of it. He speaks to us even then, in that state of tattered emaan and uplifts our spirits. I almost wept at the concluding part of this khutbah. It feels like this is you, your sins and your story on the table Allah is referring to and trying to console you through this speaker in the video. SubhanAllah! Even if we all gathered together to find peace in this world on our own, we wouldn’t be able to acquire it fully, for the peace given by Allah to His slaves when they remember Him is something incomparable. You find true peace only when you’re re-united with Allah  after doing something bad and repenting on it.

I recommend anyone reading this post, do listen to this 30 minutes and 54 seconds khutbah.

May Allah help us forgive ourselves, forgive others and surrender our hearts to Allah so we can be forgiven by Allah Almighty in return as well. That’s the key I guess, We should let go off our anger and hurt for Allah’s sake. For Allah’s sake alone.

” You need to stay positive, Sir. Don’t freak out! “, Said Oxytocin

by Khanum

New Revelation in stress science. That Oxytocin!

The cuddling hormone released when you hug someone – often known as love hormone, the agent in sexual reproduction is actually not just a emo hormone, its practically your savior from stress. It’s also deals with stress.

Here’s how.

I just came across a very interesting thing this morning. A research in science which points out how the phrase “stress is bad for you” is actually the cause of many deaths and not the fact that you’re a stress patient. Confused? Lemme simplify it for you.

In very plain language it just means that stressing about “stress” is the main problem for your health. Otherwise, having a stress disorder and being positive about it instead of freaking out is what keeps you normal. And not just THAT – but also, dealing with it the positive way , meaning: Believing that stress is literally good for you, actually makes stress good for your health. It won’t harm you if you become friends with it and let it flow in your system. That sounds risky, han? But that’s the truth.

It becomes helpful when you embrace your stress and in return it makes you social. At least it demand of you to become social as a natural defence mechanism against bad health but if you don’t answer to its call by not reaching out to people and go for human bonding. That’s where and how you’re letting your stress kill you. You gotta love it well.

Long scientific story short. Oxytocin is actually not just a cute hormone but a stress hormone which is released when you are under stress as a (Body’s Natural Defense Mechanism) It begins to flow in you and makes you yearn for affection and help.Yeah. That explains why we badly want somebody around or near us to listen to our anxieties and worries when we are stressed. Letting it all out eventually cures us of bad mental health. Next time when it happens, know that its oxytocin telling you to reach out and talk to people when under stress.

Now that you know , stress can be handled as a positive force for your body, you’ll find this hormone helping you tremendously when you help it by doing exactly what its wants you to do. This was just one part I learned. What’s even more cool about this is the part where I translated this research into what Islam teaches us to do about stress. It gives us Exactly the same practical strategy to deal with it.

Oxytocin/Patience: A Mediator of Anti Stress!

And endure patiently, your patience is not but from Allah. (16:127)

So wait with patience for the Decision of your Lord, and be not like the Companion of the Fish – when he cried out (to Us) while he was in deep sorrow. (68:48)

Oh you who believe! Seek help with patient perseverance and prayer, for God is with those who patiently persevere.  2: 153

And my favourite ayah of all. “And be patient. Surely, Allah is with those who are patient.”  (8:46)  وَاصْبِرُوا ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ

Patience (sabr) is often a word misunderstood as an act which is weakening and those of who are weak. In short, if you’re are scared of something and can’t deal with it, you just say I’m trying to do sabr. I’m trying to be patient.

Is that true? Is that what patience really is? oh yeah?

Well guess what! Here’s the new cool definition for Patience: “It’s the cool act on the block that keeps you positive and head strong!”

So when wiki says “Patience is the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.” I say is, you’re totally underestimating this word. When in reality, This word is the synonym for positivity.

Patience is that strong positive attribute and force you can develop inside you that practically makes you 1000 times stronger in front of your anxieties, worries and every type of enemy in this dunya. And that’s EXACTLY why Allah advises us to observe patience when hit by calamity or stress because yeah! He already knows how tremendously powerful you can become when you take the positive approach towards every stressful circumstances.

In a typical stress response, your heart rate goes up, and your blood vessels constrict. And this is the reason why chronic stress is sometimes associated with cardiovascular diseases. Its not really healthy to be in this condition all the time. But in the study, when participants viewed their stress response as helpful, meaning the sweating the anxiety and the increased heart rate, when they viewed all of this as a positive response by believing the faster breathing is actually good. It means its getting more oxygen to your brain– believing all this– their blood vessels stayed relaxed. Amazing! Isn’t it?

Their heart was still pounding but now the cardiovascular profile is much healthier.

Take a look at the normal and abnormal blood flow below. Once your artery is narrowed and blocked by plaque, you’re at a risk of heart attack. Your heart valves shouldn’t be blocked.

main-qimg-1a656de6e2eef81bd8ec6c5a6f7afe8f

And this is how your heart actually suffers when you’re under stress meaning Impatient. See the constricted blood vessels. But if you stay calm, patient and take things positive way, your blood vessels go relaxed. Even though they are still under stress but it’s not affecting them in a bad way. They are being strong. (I did some editing on this picture to explain it better)

material-world-singapore_blood-vessels

That’s what new stress science has revealed that how you think about stress matters. It can literally make you experience a great biological change. A positive one born out of a negative state.

So next time when you’re faced with stress about anything, be positive. Be patient. Stress wants you to be patient and positive. Don’t shrug this act of “patience”  off thinking it’s the lame thing or the weak. Be cool. Also Be understanding towards oxytocin. Because Oxytocin helps you reach out for sunshine, for support, for things and activities that are positive and not rot alone in room. It paves way for Patience, and confirms how patience is a Practical Strategy to handle stress. Subhan Allah. Allah knew it all along that is why so much emphasize on patience in Quran.

Anas ibn Malik reported: I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say, “Allah said: If I afflict my servant in his two dear eyes and he remains patient, then he will be compensated with Paradise.” Sahih Bukhari 5329

I think I better consider becoming a Islamic Psychologist.

For a Friend. For every Woman. For every Man.

by Khanum

For my Dearest Friend, Ladoo!

What is a woman?

A creature you cannot explain well. Don’t worry I am not even going to attempt it. I just wish to mention a feeling of her heart.  :  )

A Feeling so gentle and noble almost a smile if you wanna imagine.

Many girls when young dream of getting married. I used to have a class mate who whenever was asked ‘what’s your dream your life goal?’ she’ll give a dentonic smile, and say ‘SHADI!!!”

Once married, a woman’s ultimate dream is her husband. And then the love takes you to this budding desire, to have a baby. To give the man you belong to something of yourself. A part of you a part of him. An offspring in your arms. Apki omer ka Hasil. It’s a epitome of their love. It truly is a sheer source of joy for a woman. Absolutely nothing compares to motherhood. No jewel offered to the mother can make her compromise on this desire of hers. And why should she? : ) Isn’t it Allah’s blessing upon a woman to give birth, to be responsible for a life in this world.

Almost every couple wants a child immediately after marriage. Yes, trust me. Few men actually like the idea of being a dad. While others simply refuse to grow up but in the end even they have this desire and yearning for fatherhood. But the thing is, sometimes the plan a couple has made to have a child doesn’t go according to their dreams. Men may not feel this as much as women do and therefore, I want to say to my friend, it’s alright to be worried but Prayer is always around the corner. Its not even that far. It’s right here in your heart and hands. Trust Allah and let me help you supplicate to Allah well for a prince or a princess child.

I was going through the translation of Surah Maryam. And I noticed rather had a spiritual peace when I actually could grasp the crux of the ayahs. The beauty of the Quran is that you can immediately relate your worries with the events mentioned in Quran and the dua’s mentioned in verses supplicated by Prophets help you out. How? Cos they are not there for no reason. Allah swt mentioned it knowing you’ll read it someday here in this world at some point of your life and it will be your guiding light.

1. Kaf- Ha-Ya-‘Ain-Sad.

[These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur’an, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings].

2. (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya (Zachariah).

3. When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret,

4. Saying: “My Lord! Indeed my bones have grown feeble, and grey hair has spread on my head, And I have never been unblest in my invocation to You, O my Lord!

5. “And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir,

6. “Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya’qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!”.

7. (Allah said) “O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him).”

8. He said: “My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age.”

9. He said: “So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!”

10. [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: “My Lord! Appoint for me a sign.” He said: “Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect.”

11. Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah’s Praises in the morning and in the afternoon.

12. (It was said to his son): “O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)].” And We gave him wisdom while yet a child.

13. And (made him) sympathetic to men as a mercy (or a grant) from Us, and pure from sins [i.e. Yahya (John)] and he was righteous,

14. And dutiful towards his parents, and he was neither an arrogant nor disobedient (to Allah or to his parents).

15. And Salamun (peace) be on him the day he was born, the day he dies, and the day he will be raised up to life (again)!

Look at the wording, the beauty , the strength and the wisdom behind the prayer of Hazrat Zakariyyah A.S. Spend few minutes reading it with your heart and teh Imaan behind it. You’ll find a miracle of Allah guiding your way.

1- The importance and power of Dua

2- The need to mention to Allah what you want why you want despite of your status in this world.

3- Allah gives. He is The All Power ful One!

The beauty of this prayer came before me twice.. Frist time I read it in Quran myself and later on I was watching this Islamic movie on Hazrat Maryam a.s. in which they beautifully described and presented this portion of the prayer. Once you understand it, you will realise that Hazrat Zakariya had no hope no scientific guarantee with him no doctor nothing but just Allah and kamil emaan in Allah’s power and love. Second point to be noted is the ultimate faith of Hazrat Zakariya in prayer. Look at the way Allah swt is speaking to us in Quran via His prophet that look he had the knowledge  I am old and my wife is barren. But yet he came to Me.

If you read the context of this prayer you’ll see Hazrat Zaakariya even though a prophet whose heart desires and wishes are known to Allah well, even he at this point after spending all his life finally realised that how come he had not made this dua before. How could he not mention this desire before to Him? and once he realised it. He prayed the most beautiful dua that if a non believer hears He’ll say look, he’s old plus his wife is barren but look he dares pray that give me a child Allah. People had laughed at Prophet zakariya even at that time and even today those who do not believe are likely to laugh. But does it matter? : ) Allah gave His Miracle. So pray. Couple whose reports are even okay and their age is even okay and everything is okay but just a child is not ready to come. Invoke Allah ! He’s waiting to give another miracle . He never runs out of it.

Do not despair and have firm faith. Have patience and take it as a test from Allah. What is a probability for us humans is a POSSIBILITY for Allah kareem. He’s GOD u know!! so make wudu and pray like it’s going to be answered right now. : ) May your child be a blessed one. Ameen.

P.S. When you recieve a miracle dear ladoo, dont forget to show him/her this post written by Khala Pervisha !  I love your child already.

I DONUT own the picture.

My Muslim Brother…And my photography syndrome!

by Khanum

It’s another interesting day of Ramadan at home. One that is about to come to an end. Just few more minutes to go before we break our fast with the Call to prayer. Mum busy in the kitchen. Family set on table, praying. I stopped by to post few photos I took earlier today at home.

I was lucky to get a hold of my cousin brother while  performing his worship duties. Since It’s a rule for Men in Islam to offer their 5 times prayers in Masjid. it’s a rare sight at home to see any male member (either young or old) to be praying at house. This cousin of mine – after praying Jumu’ah in Masjid – probably decided to do some more worship at home. Such a noble soul these days. I luckily was free loaded with FUJIFILM. And you know there’s a saying, Where’s there’s Khanum with a camera, there’s a way!

here I was caught with my camera! hence:  He went shy…..

The last one I admit was hard to get. I had to ask him to sit properly. He would complaint. Then my mother in the background would say, ‘She’s the photographer of the house. Obey!’ hence, The Muslim Brother photography mission successful.

He is a Great Whisperer. Listen!

by Khanum

There are times when your heart is not at peace. Your whole daylight hours are spent worrying over some reasons. The reasons are unknown to the heart somehow but they sure vary from person to person. It can be anything at the pit of your heart , troubling your conscious. There are worries of financial nature, worries of how to pass this exam or that, Your worries on who will be your life partner, how will he or she be? Will you ever be able to get along with him, worries of a father trying to get his daughter married, worries of a family dealing with your studies expenses, your own worries concerning your ties with people related to you either by blood or by heart both, depressions over human tragedies, deciets, betrayals, long pauses and silence among friends, worries about your life , your career , your next comment on a heated discussion going on at someone’s status.

Momentary worries, All of these, and many more that I am not able to count. But Alas! No worries concerning your Akhirah in daytime at all. These kind of soul shuddering worries concerning to Akhirah usually overcome us at night. When we’re on bed, all set to sleep sound and proper and mentally counting down our victories of today and making a list of what to conquer tomorrow. There and then, Allah somehow lets a slow yet shivering thought slip into our preoccupied heads, He whispers, He warns . We think for awhile, shiver, say the Ayat ul Kursi and slip away to another world.

Dream. Dream. Dream

And the Next morning, its the same routine  all over again.

But Only, if you ever wake up again.

And He it is Who takes your souls at night (in sleep), and He knows what you acquire in the day, then He raises you up therein that an appointed term may be fulfilled; then to Him is your return, then He will inform you of what you were doing (Al-An’am 6:60).

‎‎Imagine your soul is taken away from your body the next time you’re asleep, not awake. What will you do? , What can you do ? Nothing…Nobody knows if tomorrow would be his time or tomorrow if  we’ll see our brothers and sisters . The lovely wife who takes care of you when you are home, husband who  is your reason to smile and shine, friends who are there to comfort and console to fight and get back to you at any cost, the next door neighbors , the baby you have given birth to, the person who you plan to be with in near future, your father, your cousin, or Your old and weak mother for whom you’re everything …Are you sure You”l be able to see them all the next day…? I am not sure.

I type this note, knowing there’s a chance  I may slip away to the next world while I’m asleep.  And ask yourself honestly, isn’t the thought  beyond any describe-able feeling? Do you want to die while you’re sleep tonite? Have you prepared well for the next stop? Ask yourself honestly. And let your conscious worry about it all. It is the only worry, the only depression in the entire Universe which shows you a way of light and doesn’t push you over into the pit of despair. Connect with Allah and you’ll realise while you served people tirelessly and yet they didn’t seem convinced, It only takes a moment to convince Allah of your loyality and He’s pleased.

I pray, I wish and I hope, from this day forward: Our day and night, our each hour if not each minute, is spent by remembering Allah swt. Ameen

“And the men and women who remember Allah frequently, Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and great reward.” – Al-Ahzab 33:35
